EP #75: Making Medical Treatment Understandable with Rebecca Owens

There is too much going on in a cancer patient’s life for them to keep track of their treatments and understand how everything works.  What if there was an Amazon for healthcare?  There is.

Mental health is just as important as physical health.  The Internet has too much information at times and a diagnosis can seem like a death sentence.  This is not helpful.  Rebecca Owens founded Swelter, a “patient immersion application” to work with clinicians to provide information for patients and drive awareness.  Less mental stress means more physical health.

What You'll Learn In Today's Episode:

  • How powerful community is

  • Why transparency and privacy are so important

  • How medical information should be available

  • How clinical trials work

  • Why immersion is better than information

  • How to take action on a great idea for positive impact

  • How many people die from cancer every year

Ideas Worth Sharing:

“Cancer, or any chronic illness, is not an iterative process.  It changes on a daily basis.” – Rebecca Owens

“We just don’t get enough people to clinical trials.” - Rebecca Owens

“60% of people who qualify for standard of care testing today are not being tested.” - Rebecca Owens

“My purpose is to change the face of cancer .” - Rebecca Owens
